Name That Tune - Punk & Postpunk Results!

Postby Frau_Blucher » Sun Nov 13, 2005 3:31 am

NTT Classics is over. We're going even older school now!

I hope this isn't back to being a hardass, but I've noticed consistent weakness in NTT responses for groundbreaking earlier tracks. Thus this Punk and Postpunk NTT to celebrate some of these seminal earlier works and maybe pick up on some less familiar stuff. Having said that, nothing here is crushing deep album cut stuff...mainstream tracks from albeit lesser known bands, especially in the second half.

As usual, there's an MP3 with a total of 25 song clips and 2 seconds of silence between each. Just guess the Title and Artist. The game is on a 100 points basis (2 point each for title and artist). Download the response form below and email it to me after you're done (my email is in the form). Make sure to include your forum screen name so I know who you are. I'll send back your Score and Answer Sheet to each respondent. Please remember NOT to post your responses here!

Here's the link for the response form:

Here's the clips link:
The NTT Punk Postpunk Sampler

The game will end on Friday November 25th at 9PM EDT...less than 2 weeks!

Good luck and have fun!

When I first saw this I thought "At last, one I might not be crap at!"

Sadly this proved not be the case.

Got 10 of them so far with a further two which I should know but don't.

Ah well, maybe next time...

EDIT: How come you didn't include the classic post-punk track by The Pop Group "We Are All Prostitutes"? Great track, shame about the album being damn near unlistenable! [:D]

Now that's not playing fair! Fancy making people listen to another track by them is cruel and unusual punishment!! [:(!][;)][:D]

Yikes, this is the first time I'll ever play an NTT game and so far I've only got 11 tracks pinned down (I think), LOL!

Hmmmm, there are 3 more I should be able to rememberrrrrrr... [B)]

Abs, Rubbeet, all...I assure you, if you looked up seminal punk and postpunk bands, every band and track would be on those types of reference lists. This is proto-new wave 101 that everyone should be familiar with...truly godfather type stuff!

I think I've figured out about half of them, but I really need to dust off some cobwebs to get any more. I know I've heard some them; I probably even have them; I just have to figure out what they are.

I don't think I'll be scoring any 94% on this puppy. Punk & Post-Punk is not really my forte. [:I]

GAME UPDATE

The first several entrants are in and we've got a 57 average. It fell as low as 50 but has climbed back up with a couple of very nice efforts. The scores are pretty wide ranging so don't feel embarrased to submit. You'll at least get to see the answers early, and I've even emailed back some cool tracks to those who've requested them. So let's see those answer sheets - only one full week left!

Please remember not to post in the forum but instead mail the answers back to me.

Game ends Friday November 25th at 9PM EDT.

I decided to finally break down and play as this is supposedly one of my favorite genres; got my answers, ended up around average.

He's right, there are no unreasonable obscurities. Everyone of these was in my collection, waiting to be re-listened to.

That I missed #1 makes me sick.
That I missed #9 makes me even sicker.
That I missed #25 makes me embarrassed.

I was thinking the same thing on the Faust thread; there are so many 'founding-father of punk/new-wave' releases out there that I SHOULD know by heart, but who had the time when you were/are listening to the current music? (it is nice when you find one that speaks to you personally, though).
