Hey, marie3 -

Did you ever get this?:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-RWNZMeMJVK ... =sony+w500

I'm thinking about getting something like this, and starting to rip my vinyl, so I had to do a search on here to see who was using which product to rip. This seemed more like waht I've been hearing about from others. I was wondering if you had any success with it.

Thanks! [:)]

I've had much success in ripping vinyl with hooking up my home stereo to the line-in on my sound card and capturing the sound through Roxio's Spin-doctor. Once you have the wav captured to your hard drive you can run it through Stienberg's "Clean" to restore it to the best possible quality.

I haven't gotten it yet. I am still debating after all this time if it would be worth it for me to buy it. I only need it for copying my vinyl and I have acquired on mp3 almost everything I was looking to transfer. Let me know if you get it. It does seem like a great item to have though. [:)]

I have to agree with Marie that since becoming part of this wondrous online community it has reaped me a harvest of music never before imagined in my wildest dreams.
FYI: I have been quite satisfied ripping my CDs on my laptop burner using Easy mp3 (thanx Debkny![;)])
A 192kps rate is more than adequate for direct CD encoding IMO.
No need to buy off the shelf consumer items to do what is already well within the means and capabilities of your existing PC.[;)]

Really, 2Nu? I'm such a retard that I'm looking for an wasy wasy to do it. I have crap-loads of vinyl and cassettes that I'd like to rip. I'll have to check out that doo-hickey you were going on about.

[/quote]Oops! Sorry MAS, I was just chiming in with Marie about having forgone ripping my vinyl in favor of reaping the harvest of music here @NWO (and additionally in my case, the Hub). I mean look at what's been posted here and on Mario's (mskremember)YOU CAN LISTEN TO IT NOW threads![:p]

As for the ripping part, I was only referring to encoding CD tracks.
There are plenty of LAME encoding apps out there, EasyMp3 is just one of them.
I have neither the time nor the inclination to rip vinyl at this point since I have pretty much acquired all of my soughtafter vinyl tracks and am well on my way to weeding out the 128kps mp3s I have in my collection.

However, if you wish to pursue vinyl or cassette rips, try these threads.

There is one gizmo that might simplify providing audio input to your PC: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=HE-280B&cat=GDT

*head explodes*

Thanks, 2Nu. I think I'll go about it the old-fashined way and have a friend hook everything up for me. [:p] I will post my success so that you all can enjoy the daily dose of techno-drama at Chez Stimulator.

I'm sorry. I think my last post held a flippant tone. Thanks, 2Nu, for taking the time to post. [:)]

Seriously, what I'm REALLY going to do is end up getting that gizmo which marie3 originally posted, then have a friend buzz in my ear what I should do along the way. The problem is I didn't know where to start, but I've a pretty good idea now.

Thanks, again.

No Prob MAS,
I know that geeky techno talk can put off those who are not so inclined.
Just wanted to put it out there anyways..

Good Luck![;)]

It does seem like the easiest way to transfer music. I would be a great item to have. I am sure you (and I) would use it all the time.
If you get it, let me know how you like it. It would be a good Christmas/Holiday gift.
