Hello all. I was hoping one or some of you might recommend a V. Prunes album to me. I know they've all been reissued recently.
Years ago I had an LP by them with the great title "If I Die I Die" but I scarcely remember anything abou it (aside from Gavin Friday's er...unique vocals.
I do recall having a song by them on a tape someone made me called "Nettles" or "Red Nettles" or the like.
What's the consensus? Good band? What album to start out on?

I'd go for ...If I Die, I Die. It's their most cohesive album. I was somewhat disappointed with the followup The Moon Looked Down and Laughed, which was done with a different line-up.
If you're up for something truly weird, you may want to try A new Form Of Beauty, which was their first album even though technically it was released in 4 parts (one 7" single, one 10" EP, one 12" EP, and one cassette).

Was A New Form of Beauty ever released in its entirety in one form? Was it all originally released in the same year? Thanks

It was all originally released in 1981, except for part 4 which came out in 1982. The first release on one format (cd) was in 1992 and they just released a remastered cd set of it last October.

Too little attention for this band.
Was often played on 3RRR Melbourne radio. Never saw them live (anyone did ?)
I saw a live DVD from 81-82 on eBay. That would be a chance to pick up on it.
Colin Newman did the production. You can here that very well on the instruments, how they sound and how they were played !! I'm a big Wire-fan so that war interesting for me. Although I found it almost emberassing HOW much Newman did the Prunes sound like Newman. The only counterweights were the voice of Friday and the off beat darkness of some songs.
I bought the album twice. In Australia I gave it to a roommate at the time once I travelled back. And in Arnhem it got burgled away. So...I'm looking out to buy it a third time and do hope teh remastered version is worth it !!
