LA Style had a great early techno song called James Brown is Dead. I bought the cd when it came out hoping it would all be just as fun & bizarre - it wasn't - every song sounded like marching...

A 12" from a band called 'The Pork Dukes' in 1980 or so. On red vinyl, the 2 songs on it were 'Makin Bacon' b/w 'Tight Pussy' and the tracks were actually really listenable. The A side was good raw punk and the B side was really funny yet tasty Reggae...I wish I knew what the hell happened to it...

No, but the most excrutiating album I think I probably liked at one point or another was Haysi Fantayzee's... what is it called? "Battle Hymns for Children Singing?" More like "Battle Torture for Prisoners of War Not Speaking." Yeah, 'cause one round of "Shiny Shiny bad times behind me" and you can damn sure bet those POWs will be spilling every secret they know.

You know though... I often find myself liking the oddball albums the best. Even though I realize how ridiculous and bad they are. My most oddball and regrettable album was Lydia Lunch as well. Sometimes the music is so bad that its funny, and sometimes its so bad that I like it. [:D]

This may only tenuously be described as any form of new wave (perhaps because of the band's utilization of cheesy keyboards and overall quirkiness), but around the time I was leaving off my ten-year-old heart's AC/DC fixation and discovering Devo, Adam and the Ants and the B-52s, someone recommended a 7" ep called "Babyfingers" by The Residents to me.

It was so bizarre sounding to me that I could not figure out whether it was meant to be played at 45 or 33 rpm.

I've been a big fan of The Residents every since.

For me , it's gotta be the Sicilian Vespers Self Titled Album
Their only 'hit' song 'Baccala' got regular airplay on WLIR back around '88 or so.
It was so over the top, raucous and borderline obnoxious but something about it really hooked me.
Not so for the rest of the LP..[xx(]

Tall Dwarfs - Hello Cruel World.
Truly weird ass stuff. Jangly, noisy, messy, lo-fi, buzzy. Used to love it. Now, I'm not so sure. But I can't part with my album only because of one song ("Nothing's Going to Happen") which is brilliant musically and lyrically.

Galaxie 500 - On Fire.
My friend made me a copy of this album. It was okay when I first listened to it. But now. I think. Each. Song. Moves. Like. Molasses. Ugh, I threw out the tape years later. Admittedly, I kinda liked "Another Day," but overall, Galaxie is really not my style.

Shriekback's GO BANG album, the one with their too faithful cover of "Get Down Tonight" by KC & The Sunshine Band. Hideous. Jaw-dropping-to-the-floor-Phantom-Menace Bad. Compared to their early
brilliance of CARE and JAM SCIENCE this was absolute shite and just about summed up everything that went wrong in the 80's

It has to be The Wibbley Brothers "Go Weird". Aptly named, it is one of the oddest collection of songs I've seen/heard on an lp. There are a couple of gems on it though.

This album and the subsequent ep for jet lag were a departure from the cars sound. Being for the most part totaly instrumental with the prevelant use of anaolog synths and sequencers it sounded more like something from synergy, peter bauman and mostly like the david vantiegham releases from that time frame(very synth pop). Very good but I think it wasn't what the die hard cars fans were looking for. I share this on the hub and on soulseek

The oddest album during the new wave era by far has to be. the group "Pictures" that had a self titled album Released in 1983, this album's cover really says it all.<img src="http://tangento.net/PICTURESArt3.gif">
It is just loaded with all sorts of disturbing
Bad Craziness and frightening childhood nightmare-type scenarios.
This album has musical elements that were (and still are) WAY ahead of their time -
and to this day, I have yet to hear anything else quite like it.

For maximum weirdness, I'd have to go with [b]Renaldo & The Loaf - Songs for Swinging Larvae[/b] (1979). These guys were the British equivalent (and compatriots) to The Residents and created probably the most bizarre music video of all-time to accompany this album.

Runner up would be the one-sided OMD single "(The Angels Keep Turning) The Wheels of the Universe" -- cool collectible, not so cool instrumental. I was ecstatic when I first happened upon this back when I was heavily into OMD, but man was I disappointed.

I was unlucky enough to buy that piece of vinyl excrement as well. It's not quite as bad as the LP I bought by the Sinceros though-godawful! For sheer weirdness, I'd go with "Reactor" by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. I think they were an Atlanta area bar band that decided to jump on the new wave bandwagon. All the songs are about the dangers of nuclear power! Female vocals, actually pretty decent, but very odd.
