I have both of those albums on cassette...bought at the time. They're still in pretty good shape too.

I picked up the cassette over a year ago for 99c and then about six months ago, I found both "Fur" and "Rush Hour" single on CD at the same time [:D]. I had to talk to the owner of the shop to get a better price on Rush Hour though because it was priced as a full album even though there's only two songs on it.

According to that VH1 show where has-beens and never-wasses live together she is. Whether it's true or some made up junk for the Reality tv audience, I don't know. I do know one thing: if I ever come across that rapper b***h(da Brat? More like da S--t)that was on that show, I'm pimp-slapping her for calling Jane a has-been and making Jane cry. I didn't care for the Go-Go's music, but they were huge. Da Brat isn't even on the radar. God, I hate rappers. Learn to sing or play an instrument, dammit.

I am with you on the rap thing. When it first started up I thought it had some decent music...more fun stuff (Sugarhil Gang, early Run DMC--though neither made music I really go out of my way to hear...) or social commentary (w/o glorifying violence) like The Message by Grandmaster Flash, but I never thought it would last and I never thought it would devolve into this b*itch-slapping, egomaniacal ultraviolent cesspool it has become. It sickens me.

Bill Maher once said of rap that he could edit together all the best bits of a superbowl game to make the most exciting looking football segment ever-- but that doesn't make him a football player. I feel sort of the same way about sampling and lack of musicianship in rap.

Even in synthpop, though heavily electronic, bands would program there own sequences and come up with their own beats rather than sample a ton of James Brown and Kraftwerk.

I tend to cut sampling and turntablism some slack, but that stuff has been around since Pierre Henry and Pierre Schaeffer cut up samples of door squeaks and trains on homemade platter in the 1940s.

Some bands like Pharcyde and Wu-Tang Clan do at least have some interesting beats, but it's all ehhh to me.

I also hear that punk rock was violent as a way of justifying violent rap, but first off, punk rock was more inclusive..more a "common man" type thing and the violence was generally the result of anger with politics, etc. and not just stoopid gang shite.
