OK, still trying to get my brain around Blir's stuff here. Some questions: What are the gray squares? Is that where a person voted for a band, but ranked them low? Also, the dendrogram loses me as you move up the tree. I get that I correlate well with Brock and that Brock & I correlate more loosely with marie3 and Plagiar. I take it the numbers are the correlations between pairs. What do eht numbers higher up the tree mean. How about a list of how everyone correlates with the average? Your software could spit that out pretty easily I imagine.

Gray squares - right, low points, there should be a continuous spectrum of gradations but the software does't show it very well
Dendogram - when you move up the tree, you're related to someone else by however far up you have to go. For example on the first tree, you're 61% to Brock but 34% to Marie3 and only 4% to Horrorgirl. You just go up the tree, find the juntion then down again. I think the second tree is more representative though.
Vs Average - same is true as for above. Just start with yourself, then go up then down to get to the average. That junction will be your correlation to the average. From the 2nd tree, you're at 58% from the average. But again, the numbers aren't absolute but relative depending on the clustering routine you use.

3. Blondie (up to 1982 or so when they broke up)

It's interesting to see the correlation between what we like and the accessibility of those artists to mainstream audiences.

Someone please post this list with statistic accuracy cuz I'm totally guessing here.

Thanks for everyone's comments. It really was JUST software though!

I was rather hoping this would spur some discussion on the list itself - you know, people calling bullshit on it, punkers ragging on sythheads or vice versa, who belonged, who didn't, etc. Anyone else see anything curious in these numbers? I guess you're satisfied that it looks representative?

I'm for example curious about U2. They got 7th place with just 15 votes, far fewer than anyone else with their totals. Like someone mentioned in the actual poll thread, they seem to either get no votes or be ranked quite high - truly polarized opinion on them I guess. The OMD thing is stunning too. I also would have thought the Cars would be ranked higher. Adam Ant is also WAY down there. And SIX votes for They Might Be Giants?!!! What am I missing? Every time I hear that guys whiney voice I want to drive a hot poker thru my ears!

Blir--sorry I didnt get a chance to vote in your latest extravaganza--the results are always highly entertataining!!! Yet, my votes would not have affected too much--a few more points for the Cars, Cure and Clash, but the rest of my votes would probably be for those bands much lower or not even on the list.

Which brings me to this-Yes--I like New Order , Echo And The Bunnymen, Depeche Mode , OMD ETC ETC ETC , and own cds by all of them (note I did NOT include The Smiths )-but they dont thrill me like they seem to thrill most everyone else. So am I a freak of new wave nature???

Why would you say such a thing? These are 3 very huge groups in the NW genre! I'm not a huge fan of any of these 3 bands either, but they definitely should be on the list. You're just being funny?

3 of my favorites are in the top 3 though: OMD, Blondie, Depeche Mode!

First of all is a funny coment to SwampThing. And as you know, music taste is subjective. I really could not care for those band mentioned.
Huge is not always quality. Yes, I would put them way down on the list, or kicked them out [;)]
