Is there ANYTHING more minimalist that came out of the 80's than "Warm Leatherette" (The Normal)? I'm not sure if I can think of anything. Thanks!

I only sorta half-lauged once a Trio, but I had to suppress the urge.

It really doesn't help that the main dude with the tiny keyboard thing looks similar to Vin Diesel.

(er...anyone have a regular old mp3 of TVOD? I've got Leatherette on CD but not the flip...)

Anyway, I wanna come to the defense of Trio. Yet another band from the NW era that gets labelled as a novelty group. Actually they have a number of great songs. They are not just Da Da Da (though I am a fan of that number too!)

I would point to "Anna: LetMeInLetMeOut", "Hearts are Trump", "Sunday You Need Love Monday Be Alone" and "Broken Hearts for You and Me" as just a few of their songs that are as good as anything from the era. They do have some tracks that do nothing for me, and some that are on the annoying side, but I like their whole schtick...some of it ain't schtick either, it's just catchy as hell songs.

If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to post some other good Trio songs after tomorrow.

This thread just got me to thinking how cool it would be to put together a synth-heavy but ultra-minimalist mix CD.

What all would you put on it, aside from what's been mentioned already?

nails "88 lines..." is in that minimalist vein. Prince's "Erotic City" may not be new wave but it's pretty stripped down and always sounds good.

Yessss. I don't know how many comps I've made for people (and myself) over the years that kicked off with "Ghost Rider."

BTW-- not really my topic, Blir...just absconding with it! Maybe we could all contribute a song that we could post here, then when all was finished everyone could make themselves a copy?

This would allow for folks to have access to some tracks they don't have or can't otherwise get. There are several on your list, Blir, that I don't have and some I've never heard of (Telex, NOIA...)

I don't know...may be a bad idea. For one, I couldn't abide that Suzanne Vega song! [:D]
