Spaz, the "Whisper to a Scream" intro IS gorgeous, isn't it?
I feel the same way for Chameleons' "Swamp Thing" intro—just so much emotion there. However, it changes throughout the song, so I don't know if that counts as a riff…

I love the "love Like Blood" riff.
What about:

"Walk On By" by the Stranglers (OK, it's a Doors rip-off, but still cool)
