Does anyone remember the movie "Foxes" starring Jodie Foster, Cherie Currie and Scott Baio? I think it came out 1980.

That was one of my favorite movies.

It had the basis for an 1980s movie, a coming of age movie, but maybe a little more serious and not a very happy ending.

It featured the song "On the Radio" by Donna Summers. I hated to admit it at the time, but I loved that song.

Also one of my favorite bands from the 1970s, Angel, was featured in it.

I thought the cast was great, it was fast-moving, kept you glued to your seat, great music, hot actors and actresses, characters everyone can relate to ...

If I was asked about teen, coming-of-age movies, the first few that would come to mind are the ones based on the S.E. Hinton novels: [i]Tex[/i], [i]Rumble Fish[/i], and [i]The Outsiders[/i]. Strangely enough, while [i]The Outsiders[/i] is the most famous of the three I prefer them in the order which I listed them. The books too. I recall liking [i]Tex[/i] more because of its slow pace and more "real" feel to its characters, although [i]Rumble Fish[/i] comes pretty damn close - that one was the [i]Rebel Without A Cause[/i] of the 80s, but, personally, as a young guy I associated more with the young people depicted in [i]Tex[/i]. It's funny to see Matt Dillon play a good kid and then go back to being juvenile delinquent in the rest of the movies. If you're a fan of Matt Dillon (and I know most of you are), you have to see this movie. Score was by Pino Donaggio... not New Wave in the least, but definitely far better than the original scores for the other two movies.

Why be ashamed of loving any Donna Summers song? At the expense of my friends ridicule, I proudly admit liking what I damn well want to like, trendy or not. Of course this is coming from someone who liked Xanadu and nearly every Italian zombie film ever made. Any movie with Scott Baio gets a thumbs up from me just for the cheesy Chachi factor. Didn't care for the ending, especially when I first saw it at eight and didn't know what to make of it (you're probably asking, what the hell was an 8 year old doing wathching Foxes? My babysitter/hot older neighbor brought me. If I was given a choice, I would have rather watched Flash Gordon).

Wow Mare, this is actually a great topic choice and in fact VERY new wave IMHO. Cherie Currie from the Runaways was perfect casting! I saw it only once way back in the day, but remember the buzz around it was something akin to the modern day "13"...only not nearly that raw. It was a pretty unique movie at the time. Like you say, it wasn't really a coming of age movie or another teen flick...it was pretty serious. "On the Radio" is the perfectly whistful song for that movie. As far as nostalgia goes, that and "Last Dance" are like sister songs, with their melancholy beginnings then the "to hell with it" party beats that follow. Sigh....

Foxes - now there's a movie that people rarely talk about - good one Mare!

I bought the dvd a couple of years ago. I loved the movie back when I was in High School. It's funny - watching it through adult eyes though - I didn't like it so much anymore. I'll have to go back & watch it again though.

It had a great cast and a great soundtrack. It is very nostalgic for me - we all dressed & looked like that back then didn't we??? Who would have thought Cherie Currie could act?

I think the basis of the movie has been remade & reformulated a few times - Foxfire comes to mind - which I really liked a lot.

Hutter -- I hated to admit it to myself, I was never one to try to impress others. Maybe that's my problem in life.

Wolverine -- Yeah, Cherie was an excellent actress -- going that route would have been a better choice than her lame singing career after the Runaways. So gorgeous too.

XXX -- I liked the S.E. Hinton books but was very disappointed in the movies. I hated the way they were filmed.

Cherie reminded me of every tough-girl I went to school with. Her look in that movie is definitely a late-70's relic. I haven't seen anything else she's done - but she's really was good in Foxes. I wonder what happened to her? I remember she did an album with her sister.

I liked all the se hinton books and movies. I liked the outsiders the best (the book) and Rumble fish for the movie. Matt dillon was in all her movies and so as se hinton, in small bits. There were a lot of characters that were in all three of the movies. Stan Ridgeways and Stewart Copeland did the soundtrack to rumble fish and someone from New Wave Outpost sent me the song "Dont Box Me in".

I remember in Foxes where Scott Baio skatboards under a semi-truck.
