gee, I'm sorry Mr. Marv...I guess it wasn't intelligent or well crafted when I simply stated my opinion in my first post. I guess your response of 'um, no' was pure genius...I guess I didn't put forth something quality to the discussion like you did with your usual and predicatble fawning over NO. I didn't say anything negative, just what I thought. And you came after me like you were personally insulted.

What the fuck is wrong with me? Looks like the biggest thing is that I don't agree with you all of the time, and you can't accept it. If that makes me grumpy sorry...read my first post, before your mindless response, and tell me what was wrong with it. I didn't hijack this thread, just put forth a well formed opinion. So try and deal with it.

Sorry Wolver, for this going this way...it wasnt my intention but I'm tired of the Marvy New Order fan fest that if you don't join your a moron. Ok, guilty, and I have no problem with it.

bpdp - I have never heard the pezband - they sound intriguing though.

SomebodySomewhere -that Rubinoos track is great! I've heard a few things from them - always excellent.

plagairism - Julianna Hatfield's My Sister is a great song, with the immortal line "I hate my sister, she's such a bitch.." Deeper sentiments have never been spoken.[;)]

I just mentioned it on the album thread, but the Heats' "Have an Idea" is truly a gem of jangle and Beatlesque harmonies. Dunno why these guys never got what they deserved. Just checked . . . to my surprise, the compilation "Smoke" is still available at amazon.

One of these days I'll get a new computer and send some CDs around. (P.S. If anyone has made any special power pop mixes, I'd love to hear.)

Excellent post.I have been collecting powerpop for years and this web has pointed out a lot of artists I missed.I stongly recommend the Shake Some Action comps.It,s a 8 or 9 vol set of mostly U.S U.K powerpop(I don,t know why but I skipped a volume of European powerpop)from the late 70,s early 80,s from the big hits to the obscure.Put my vote in for D.Twilley as one of the best powerpoppers.
This music is second only to punk for me from that golden era.

What do people think of the La's? I would consider them power pop, at least their first album (that's the only stuff from them I'm familiar with I confess). I really dug their sound too. To me, "There She Goes" is 2 1/2 minutes of classic pop rock.

Wolv, check out http://bostonbuttabeats.com/ and www.myspace.com/atlantics for more Atlantics tracks. Though their stuff wasn't always power pop. Their '79 single, "One Last Night," veered towards doo wop, while their '80 single, "Lonelyhearts," (a huge hit in Boston in 1980-1981) was synth pop/post-punk.

If you like the melding of synth pop and power pop, you can't go wrong with The Monroes' self-titled EP. "What Do All the People Know" was the hit, and it was great.

The Producers' s/t first album was pretty good, too. Particularly the hits "What She Does to Me" and "What's He Got?," but also "I Love Lucy" and "Certain Kinda Girl." Second album, "You Make the Heat," wasn't as good, but had two memorable tracks in "She Sheila" and "Breakaway." Third album wasn't memorable at all, and the fourth one was the pits.

Also, the two Cretones albums are well-worth hearing. Lots of good love songs in there. "Real Love"... "Mad Love"... "The Cost of Love"... "Love Is Turning"... it's one big love fest.

I remember the Heats, too! Saw them just a couple times, back in the day, in Seattle. Fun shows!

Thanks everybody for your terrific descriptions and postings of these power pop songs. This is a genre I've not paid much attention to. I haven't heard much of this stuff. But thanks to y'all's posted links, I have heard some great stuff! I esp. like the Rubinoos and the Jack Lee tracks.
