Thanks for the heads up on the Atlantics tracks SomebodySomewhere. I liked One Last Night a lot. I also need to hear more from the Monroes.

Electriclash - loved the Innocents song, as well as the Fire Apes, Flying Colors & the Barracudas. Thanks for uploading them - great to discover some of these!

Also, the two Cretones albums are well-worth hearing. Lots of good love songs in there. "Real Love"... "Mad Love"... "The Cost of Love"... "Love Is Turning"... it's one big love fest.

I have a couple of Cretones songs. I am more familiar with them for playing on Linda Ronstadt's Mad Love lp where she covered a couple of their songs. I didn't think it was such a bad album.

The bit from "Empty Heart" on the Sampling the Rarities page is pretty representative of what they sounded like. I liked their versions better than Ronstadt's -- although Mark Goldenberg doesn't have as good a voice. To put it mildly.

If you have "Real Love," that was the chart hit, and probably their best song.

And, dude, did I say doo-wop up thread? That is NOT the word I meant! Well... now I'm not even sure what I did mean... but, you know, it was like a '50s rock pastiche.

I would Consider Elvis Costello great Power Pop.

As well as:

Cheap Trick

The Go Gos

Greg Kihn

The Knack (they other good songs besides the overplayed "My Sharona")

"Switchin' To Glide"- King's X

Tommy Tutone

The Jam ("Power Punk"?)

I always liked early 70's Power Pop too:

The Rasberries "Go All The Way", "I Wanna Be With You"

Looking Glass "Brandy"

Badfinger

ELO

And too many 1 hit wonders to count

There's a new book coming out chronicalling the history of Power Pop. It's called "Shake Some Action" and it covers many of the bands discussed here. A CD of rare tracks from such artists as The Rubinoss, Shoes, and 20/20 is included. Go here for info:

Thanks mathman - that's an incredible site!

Here's another good one - It's a french site with tons of great stuff from all over the world (most in english.) Although the quality of some of the songs isn't that great - it's worth it just to hear some of this stuff!
