Yes, I remember the Bongos show. I remember that show starting really late for some unknown reason. Remember how the audience went nuts when they played "Barbarella?" I missed the 10,000 Maniacs show. But I do remember those street lights and how they buzz when the temperature is below 20 degrees and having cold beer on those frozen nights!!![:p]

For some reason, SUNY Plattsburgh drew alot of great bands back in the early 80s. I guess it was because Plattsburgh was on the way to Montreal from New York and vice-versa. So, it was easy for bands to stop for a show. If you need any ODW, let me know.

After the show, Frank, Kim and I went out back of the club where The Bongos were put up, and Rob Norris gave me some 45s (I had arranged to meet with them after the show when we interviewed them on WPLT. They didn't even get to the club until maybe after 11pm?? People were getting a bit restless, but when they came on, man, they blew everyone away with their tight sound, those jangly guitars and great vocals and harmonizing. That show was great, also I remember they had those bright blue shirts and red shirts with black pants. They said later they had run into problems on the interstate on the way up. They were pretty nice guys, that's when they told me they had once opened for Throbbing Gristle in San Franciso. Now there is an odd pairing for any concert. I recently found a solo Rob Norris CD, man it is good stuff. Also have all the Richard Barone stuff, plus the James Mastro stuff with Health and Happiness Show, plus of course Nuts and Bolts. The Bongos took jangled melodies to a whole new level.

i bought the 7" of lawnchairs last week - i didn't know them, but trusted the very new-wave looking single cover-art - what a great little record, soon as it came on with the omd riff, i knew it was money well spent!

In response to the question asked by newwavepopman in May 2004...I've always loved this band. I thought Moving Pictures was a fabulous album. All I have is a worn out cassette version of it, which drags and squeeks...etc. It's just about unlistenable.

I also have the the EP.

ODW's earlier work is definitely better than their later efforts. 'Nightlife' and 'Lawnchairs' are great songs, and I'll throw in 'No One is Watching' as another excellent bit of synth.

Heh! My girlfriend at the time openly scoffed at "Open Windows." Said it sounded like Prince. I valiantly tried to defend ODW but in the end she was right! The sound was much too slick. I love the "no sequencers used" note on the EP. I would try to play the songs on my old SCI Pro-One and I was impressed that they could play so "sequencer-like" on the EP.

Hotel Room was off the 7" version of Digital Cowboy. Strangely, it didn't make the 12" version of the vinyl.

Nightlife - I first heard back in the early 80's on our local college station. I've had it on the same cassette for 24 years & play it endlessly, even the sound quality is about a 5 on a 1-10 scale. Never could find it on CD or anything, so I've clung to this little cassette with a great deal of sentimentalism (is that a word).

And then one day after I was in NWO for a few months, it dawned on me to ask if anyone might have it on mp3. My man Eight6 did indeed have it...and sent it to me and I've put that damn song on just about every CD I burn.[:)] Whaddya expect after waiting 24 yrs? [;)]

Wow, you must be at your Keith Silva limit by now. I can only listen to it occasionally now...it seems like such a vocal excursion for the man: but the synth work is absolutely superb.

I hear ya......but, like I say........it's the whole sentimental value of the song. Only heard it played one time in 25 years over the airwaves. Never heard it again anywhere; figured it was some obscure 45 that I just happened to capture one night at 3AM in the morning.

It was that whole time period back then (1979-80) & waiting every week for Saturday night to come around when I could steal these really cool songs off the radio that the college would play from midnight - 6AM. Those were the days!!

Now, 25 years later, because of the wonder of the internet, here I am (here we all are) discussing & trading the music that I loved (still do) so much - talking about & listening to others talk about - songs that I thought no one else even knew about. amazing.
