Debbie Harry Movies

Postby Spectre General » Tue Dec 27, 2005 1:45 pm

I'm a big fan of Debbie Harry, and I know that over the years she's been in quite a few movies, but I've never seen any of them other than "Videodrome." Today it was brought to my attention that there is this Julia Roberts movie called "Satisfaction" that Debbie is in, what I want to know is; is it really worth sitting through Julia Roberts just to see Debbie in this movie? Has anyone seen any of her other movies that are worth watching and what are they? The only other one I'm aware of offhand is "Tales from the Darkside" which I've also not seen. What are everyone's thoughts?

hey spectre.
if i remember correctly, ms. harry was only in one scene of 'satisfaction'. it's towards the latter half of the film. i would watch this film again though because it is so tremendously horrid, it's great. julia roberts plays a slut and justine batemen is the 'star' of the film. i think liam neeson is also in it, as well as the voice of 'jem and the holograms'.
i saw tales when i was much too young to know who debbie harry was so i don't remember what part she played.

STOP THE PRESS!

Julia Roberts plays a slut?! When did she start doing this?

Just kidding.

Spectre: Do NOT watch "Satisfaction," for it will not leave you with any. Get Wolverine to tell you what happened.

Actually it is on the IMDB.
And I agree, Downtown 81 is essential viewing!
An incredible document of the early 80s Manhattan scene!

She played a haggard old waitress in "Heavy" (an excellent movie starring Liv Tyler) and she was perfect!

I never saw "Union City."

Also she was in Mr. Mike's Mondo Video.

There was the part when all these hot chicks were talking about guys and they were referring to nerds. I think it was Debbie who said, "They look so cute when they miss the seat."

She's been in tons of movies, unfortunatly mostly in supporting or walk-on roles.

I sat through Satisfaction only to see Deb - she's in it for about 2 seconds - not worth it.
She has a non-speaking roll in New York Stories - it's really nothing more than a flash of her at a party.

Union City is unusual, not very good, but it's wall-to-wall Deb.

She was also in a great movie called Copland - unfortunatly all of her scenes were cut. In the extras on the dvds you can see some of them. She has minimal scenes in Dueces Wild - horrible movie & she has no lines - she plays a christmas obsessed nut.

She plays a strip bar owner in The Fluffer & is very good in that. She also is in a movie called Six Ways to Sunday which is supposed to be very good. She's also in My Life Without Me, I hear she was good in it.

She was very funny in Tales From the Dark Side as a witch trying to cook a bratty kid in her range.
She was great in Spun as big leather dyke who beats the crap out of some abusive prick.
She played a phone sex operator being stalked by a serial killer in Intimate Stranger - it wasn't bad - she did a very good job.

I think her best are obviously Hairspray and Heavy.

The "voice of Jem And The Holograms" is Britta Phillips of the band Luna (although she probably does'nt want that mentioned in her bio now).

I adore Debbie but it has to be said - I loved watching her get shoved into the oven at the end of Tales Of The Darkside. Highly underrated actress. Also loved her in Forever Lulu. Stupid picture but she looks so gorgeous in it.

Debbie was in an indie (last year?) called "my life without me" or something like that. It was a decent movie, Mark Ruffalo is in it. She plays the mother of the girl who's terminally ill.

Heavy is probably her most critically acclaimed role and I remember roger ebert saying that debbie should have gotten a best supporting actress oscar nomination for that role.

There has been a big list of other movies she was supposed to star in or did and nothing ever came about and maybe someday we will get to see them.
