My last piece of vinyl

Hmmm. Somehow I reached 100 posts and I don’t feel that I’ve contributed too much. But I have really enjoyed reliving great memories and music thanks to NWO.

A recent thread about Nettwerk reminded me that the very last piece of vinyl I ever purchased was by a Nettwerk group called The Water Walk in 1987. Not only is it the last record I ever bought, it may very well be one of the rarest I own. Someone else must have bought it because there was a second album by The Water Walk, but neither made it to CD to the best of my knowledge.

Although it is not new wave, I thought I would share a track called “Anyways”. It is in the same vein as The Grapes of Wrath or perhaps one of the mid-late 80’s jangle rock bands from Georgia. I really don’t know much at all about The Water Walk other than they were a Vancouver based group, very little info about them on the net.

Anyone else have such a distinct memory of when you switched over completely to CD's?

Zill, I have the vinyl of "Thingamajig" by the Waterwalk. I assumed it was their only release but now I'm thinking it was the 2nd (1990 release date). The track you linked is not on the lp I have. I bought this used for around $4 or $5 US.

I learned about them from a Nettwerk Records compilation from the late-80's which also had groups like Lava Hay, Moev and Sara McLachlan (pre-famous), Severed Heads and Manufacture. I always think of Nettwerk as a source of late-80's industrial stuff, kind of a Canadian Wax Trax.

I never made the entire switch to CD's - - I came close in the early 90's and most of my stuff from that era is CD. I still will buy the vinyl version of a current release if it isn't ridiculously priced.

My first CD was the 2nd Ratt album - it was a gift from my parents when they got me my first CD player (86 or 87 I think) and I still don't know what they were thinking. I can't get rid of it, however, for sentimental reasons. My 2nd CD I bought myself, the at-the-time newly released "Electric Cafe" by Kraftwerk.

bpdp3, funny that I knew Thingamajig existed but I've never heard anything off of it!

Maybe the most interesting thing about the Water Walk album I have is the Nettwerk sales brochure/price list inside the sleeve...promoting bands like SPK, Skinny Puppy, Single Gun Theory, Severed Heads, Moev, Tear Garden, etc.

I bought Elliott Smith's self-titled album and The Shin's Chutes Too Narrow on vinyl about a month ago.

The Water Walk Thingamajig is on cd. I got it when it first came out and it's on ebay really cheap right now.
