He actually did come calling after he heard the song.
I think it was Siobhan that said he seemed really disappointed after he found out they were English - he wanted them to be black.

Back when I was an alt-rock fan in the 90s I found it very amusing that Alien Sex Fiend had a song called Garbage and Garbage had a song called Alien Sex Fiend.

That was pretty cool.

There was also a band named Green who released an album named "R.E.M." after R.E.M. released "Green". [:D]

While we're on the subject, there's also the classic tale of Nick Lowe naming his EP "Bowi" after David Bowie issued "Low".

Wow, impressive couple of cross-references. I had no idea. All I got is another vanilla band from a song:

Boy's Don't Cry from the Cure.

oh yeah, and in "Mile High Club" by Bow Wow Wow, there's one lyric in which Annabella sings "Sex gang children gang up on you...".

Graham Parker's back-up band the Rumour released an album titled "Max" in response to the Fleetwood Mac album "Rumours."

I think Sex Gang Children took their name from Bow Wow Wow's "Mile High Club" as well.

Stiff Little Fingers took their name from a Vibrators song.
