Definately not oboe. I hear two horn sounds, a lower flatter one and a higher sharper one later. The latter is likely just trumpet. The former that sounds like a very choppy muted trombone is likely either just a sax or possibly flugel horn. If it's a flugel horn, it could be making both the high and low sounds, but's likely just a trumpet and sax. Oboe is much higher pitched despite its name suggesting a deeper tone for whatever reason.

In the credits from the cd booklet it says bassoon.

"Some Distant Memory" by Electronic has a beautiful oboe arrangement at the end.

Cool find Geoff. Are you sure it's not Barnye's Melodica though? It's that recorder-like wind instrument that he sometimes uses?

I guess I coulda looked at my own album.
I could use some remedial instruction in music appreciation - maybe watch Fantasia or something.

There is a huge Oboe (I think) solo at the start of the 12" version of "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye" by Soft Cell.
