Song: I Can See It In Your Eyes

They are a Canadian synth-pop act, their debut "Just Another Day" (with this song) was released in 2000. The version of this song here, is the older, slower and meloncholic version. I'm not sure when it was recorded but it must have been in the later 1990s.

They used to be called Rule of Faith and this track was on an early (1996) compliation. That's probably where it's from.

Another project with the same people is Rubicon 7.

Hi frank, thanks for the info. Had a look at those and found an mp3 of I Can See It In Your Eyes, and it's not them I'm afraid. This tune is on a dj mix from 1986, so the other bands you mentioned are too late unfortunately. Thanks for your help though [:)]

Lol no worries, at least it was another suggestion!! It's a tricky one, never had so much trouble trying to id a song. Thinking it may be a B side , or even worse a really obscure one off single [?]

There was a band called Life By Night. I think that they were on Capital or EMI (or possibly Manhattan) The singer on this track sounds like their singer.

Hi there, yea REALLY sounds like Red Flag, but it isn't them as they didn't form until 1988 I think, and this is from 1985/86. Does anyone know if the lead singer was in any band before that?

Red Flag was around in the early '80s (in San Diego) as Shades of May. They had a single in 1984 on a compilation album that was pretty popular called, "Distant Memories." It's been posted here a number of times.

I'm not aware of them recording anything else under that name.

In 1984 the duo scored an early coup when their song “Distant Memories” was included on 91X’s local music compilation, Local Heroes. More importantly, a few years later they were discovered at a Pacific Beach club date and signed a deal with Synthicide Records, an offshoot of Enigma Records (Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks).

Re-christening themselves Red Flag, the duo scored a minor turntable hit in 1988 with their debut single, “Broken Heart.” But it was “Russian Radio,” released a few months later, that really scored, landing the band in the Top 10 of the Billboard charts. They released their first album, Naïve Art, in 1989, which scored another Top 10 with the single, “If I Ever.” The duo were now huge favorites at dance clubs worldwide, and that same year MTV’s underground specialty show, 120 Minutes, added “Russian Radio” to its rotation.

Here's a thought. Red Flag often sounds like Depeche Mode. Many Depeche Mode "unreleased tracks" are actually Red Flag tracks. The only other band pawned off as DM "unreleased tracks" is Fortran 5, originally I Start Counting.
