How are the NW Channels on the Satellite Radios?

AOL streams XM from their website for free, in addition to many other channels. It provides a pretty comprehensive list alternative stations, but the New Wave channel plays too many hits. 80's Alternative is pretty good too. You can launch AOL Radio from their homepage: http://www.aol.com/

I really like channel 44 on XM. They play some really good stuff from the early 80's that I consider to be very obscure non - mainstream music. Haven't tried sirius..

I've had Sirius since Christmas and it's good, but I have noticed that they play a lot of the same songs over and over...could be due to requests. They play more of "the hits" than obscurities, but it seems in the past week that I've heard more rare stuff. All in all, I've really enjoyed it though. I live in Memphis where the radio stations are horrrible, and having a choice of several stations is great. I would still recommend Sirius, but I'm also a Stern fan. The biggest choice for me was the baseball vs. football coverage, which made things tough because I like both (XM has the MLB baseball games, Sirius has the NFL football games). Still, the best new wave station I've ever heard is the "Retro Active" station through my Time Warner digital cable. I wonder if that's streamed somewhere?

First of all, newbie here. Love this forum!!

To answer the topic, I'd have to go with the New Wave on XM all the way! I've had both services since they began and enjoy FRED on XM, CH44 a lot more. It think it all boils down to your music tastes. If you like more of the mainstream songs and bands, FIRST WAVE, CH22 on Sirius may be the way to go. I find that the only times you do hear some cool lost/obscure songs on FIRST WAVE is on their specialty shows but it's just too few for me. With the likes of Richard Blade and Fred Schneider as DJ's, I just expect more. Imagine buying every mainstreem 80's/New Wave collection CD at your local record store and that's what you'll here.
I really enjoy listening to FRED, XM CH44 a lot more. Maybe 95% of the time. They play a good mixture of the hits as well as the lost, obscure and rare tracks. XM does have two great compliments to FRED with LUCY and ETHEL as mentioned before.

Dont get me wrong, having either of the two services is a lot better that listening to whats played on the radio these days. For me at least.
Again, both services allow a free 3 day trial so give it a try to see what you like better.

I love Sirius. No need for me to get it right away though since LIR is currently streaming.
