I could never understand why he was ever considered to be a New Wave artist,because surely on his own he sounded more like Soul/R&B Pop.Nothing that I recall by him ever hinted at being New Wave at all,but yet my Trouser Press Guide To New Wave Records has Paul listed in there.

Only for the fact that he was New Wave by association from the bands and singers he played with for a short time such as Squeeze and Nick Lowe.One should not classify,just because there was or is an association at one time that their music as artist themselves makes them also a singer from the same genre.And heck Tempted was from from what I would call New Wave.It sounded to me more like R&B Pop.No way is that song New Wave,and rightly so should never be called New Wave.


And what did he do with Nick Lowe other than,but play the organ on "Half A Boy And Half A Man? And sing along to the song.Shit man anyone can do that.And none of his solo work would I call New Wave either.Heck his biggest solo song I Need You from 1982 sounds like The Temptations and nothing like New Wave.

I agree, Paul is not a new wave guy. In fact, he is an old 70's guy having been in bands like Ace, ("How Long") etc. Nevertheless, I think he is a good artist and I do like his solo works. His last cd is a really good stew of soul, rock, and blues.

I wouldn't classify Paul Carrack as new wave, ever. That would be like calling Mike & the Mechanics new wave.
