Great Songs - Two Versions?

The Perfect Song thread and "Starry Eyes" made me think of this. What are some great or favorite songs that have two or more distinct versions? I don't mean just extended or 3rd-party mixes. I mean two distinct versions from the get-go. I've always regarded it to be a real gift to have a song you like and discover another truly great version as well.

B-Movie's "Nowhere Girl" was another example with the completely different Dead Good Tapes interpretation. The Chameleons album and single versions of "Tears" is another:

I think boomtown rats ''mary of the fourth form'', had two different versions at their first two classic albums.Their first cover is a bit rawer and punky,and the second still strong,but more simpler and with different lyrics(from Tonic for the troops).

Duran Duran's "The Chauffer", off their album/cassette/CD, is a beautiful tune that many folks love.
But they also recorded a different, gorgeous, acoustic version, called "Sing Blue Silver". Nice to get a different perpsective :

And, do you include demo versions ? Because an artist's "demo" version can sound quite different. Take the B-52's "Rock Lobster" & Oingo Boingo's "Forbidden Zone", which sound unlike the final, released versions. And what about the Psychedelic Furs' "Pretty in Pink", whose version on their initial cassette/album release sounded far better than the watered-down version that was reworked for the movie [i]Pretty in Pink[/i] .
I'm sure there are others that I can't think of right now. There's one NW gem that's on the tip of my medulla oblongotta in which there's a version with female vocals and another with male vocals. Urgh...

The Swans did two cover versions of Love Will Tear Us Apart, called the Red (male lead) and Black (female lead) versions. Both are excellent. I've seen the Black version on some collection CDs, but I've only seen the Red version on vinyl.

"Here Comes the Flood" by Peter Gabriel both on his first solo album and on Robert Fripp's album Exposure. Lovely song and great performances.

Slow Children put "President Am I" on both their albums. I like the version on their self-titled album much better.

Blancmange Waves featured on the CD version of Happy Families is the single version not what originally appeared on vinyl.

Alison Moyet's Essex features a terrible remake of Yazoo's Ode To Boy. the original is featured on You & Me Both.

Eurythmics' Peace remastered has several different remixed tracks.

•Devo's cover of The Stones 'Satisfaction (I Can't Get No) appears in at least two different versions - The original 7" version. and the album version ...they are very different from each other, but both are great!

•How bout Modern English' "Melt With You" --- Mesh and Lace Version, After The Snow Version and Pillow Lips Version!

Wire - "Kidney Bingos" (since it was just on your NTT)

Gene Loves Jezebel - "Desire"

Digney Fignus - "The Girl with the Curious Hand"

Mi-Sex - "People"

Expose - "Point of No Return"

Juluka - "Scatterlings of Africa"

The Hitmen - "She's All Mine" and a few others, I think

And all the songs that appeared on both Pseudo Echo's s/t ("Autumnal Park") and "Love an Adventure" albums.

The Sugarcubes' "Birthday", was redone with Jesus & Mary Chain, called "Christmas", with Bjork on vocals.

The first one that comes to mind is
Alphaville - Forever Young.
The album version is the slow one, also released as a single.
And the 12' version is a dance mix, and also follows the lines of the original demo. I also have a couple different live versions.

Depeche Mode
Fly On The Windscreen - Original Single vs Black Celebration Version - Vs. Death Mix
Even more contrast in their version of In Your Room. Album version vs the single mix. They were very different.


How about Rolling Stones Gimme Shelter vs the version by Sisters Of Mercy (awesome!)

I immediately thought about a-ha.

No, not an alternate "Take On Me" (well, if you include the demo...), but rather their latest single "Analogue (All I Want)". The alternate version is "Minor Key Sonata (Analogue)," which is less radio-friendly, I suppose, and you should check it out if you dig the awesome single.
