I don't know if the term Christian is appropriate but those bands put a lot passion in their songs and that's the reason why I like them. Among them, I would cite The Waterboys, the Call and the Thousand Foot Krutch that I've discovered recently, the song This Is A call is not bad .

I've got one full-blown "Cristian" album in my collection, the album Dopleganer by Daniel Amos. It's pretty new wave for the time. I bought it because the song "New Car" is really good, with samples of Jonny Olsen from The Price Is Right.

Wasn't U2 considered a christian band when they first came out? I remember reading an article somewhere way back when, that made a big deal out of it.

Joy Electric is full electro pop and is christian, apt core is electronic christian.

If it's not too blatant, I can "look past" some christian lyrics/themes in music if the music itself is good...but that doesn't happen too often. Let's just say I'm not big on "preaching."

Costa Mesa (?) band Undercover circa 1983, had a minor minor hot with 'God Rules'....maybe more punk than wave....U2 was definitely considered 'Christian' for a period there....

Minor Detail was a christian band? I'm sure the members were Catholic, but I didn't know they were literally Christian New Wave.

After the Fire (ATF) were a Christian band for all intents and purposes. They have a number of catchy songs with lots of devotional metaphors and references, but it doesn't bother me. It's kind of ironic that their biggest hit -- "Der Kommissar", being decidedly non-Christian and just a bit sinister -- went on to be their last and biggest single; it was recommended to them by their producer after hearing Falco's version in a club.

U2 were probably the most religious band of the new wave era.

The following are some comments from AMG:
"Equally known for their sweeping sound as for their grandiose statements about politics and religion, U2 were rock & roll crusaders during an era of synthesized pop and heavy metal."

Regarding the album October... "Bono, in particular, tries too hard to make big political, emotional, and religious statements"

Remember the lyrics to Gloria? Right out of Sunday mass:
Gloria...in te domine
Gloria...exultate

For me, their religious focus has always been part of the attraction. Rather than the "I'm too cool for religion" attitude of most bands, they embraced it as part of thier identity. Back in the day, I remember comments about Adam being the black sheep of the group (i.e., not quite as committed to Christianity as the others).

I swear I've read a lyric sheet that says "We were cool on craze" (since it does rhyme with "Dance Hall Days")

He was just kidding. There was a thread on misheard lyrics a while back and I think this was one of the examples that was posted.
