Yep, Pasadena local born and raised (actually South Pas). Grew up about 4 miles from the old KROQ building on Los Robles. Spent many "ahem" school hours hoping to catch a glimpse of somebody on the air. It was also good to have Poo-Bah's around to pick up stuff I heard. Hey Jimbo, are you still looking for that Public Domain song?

But what I really want to know is how much of this stuff is on vinyl ONLY! That way I can go directly to Ebay or Musicstack to find the vinyl. Nothing bugs me more that paying $$$ for vinyl only to find it's on a CD somewhere (I prefer CD's).

Thanks, frisky, reading your lists really took me back!! But could you explain how you got these lists? Do you have access to the play logs or a large collection of radio tapes? Or a perfect memory? I listened to KROQ everyday from late 1979 to the present and many of these songs on your lists I don't recall ever hearing in the regular rotation. I'm worried that maybe all the drinking I did back then really affected me! [:D]

20/20 had an album that came out in 1982 called Sex Trap. It was after they were dropped by their record label, and it didn't do too well. This song received very little airplay and was dropped soon after.
Most of my lists were compiled by good old-fashioned memory (I have a good one). As I was a kid who did not really have monetary funds to purchase a large record collection at the age of 10-12, I listened to the radio constantly. Many of the obscure tracks I "rediscovered" by accident while listening to the full length album much later on when I started collecting. Examples are:

Since I had never had these albums as a kid, where else would I have recognized these songs? Compilations were also good for discovering those forgotten songs. I've also done a hell of a lot of research. Thank god for the internet! I've read a lot of "who did this song on Kroq" questions and answers and picked up those songs (Anemic Boyfriends, G.E. Smith, Naughty Sweeties). I've heard airchecks by the Insane Daryl Wayne (July 4, 1982) and The Young Marquis and Stanley that gave me songs (Phil Seymour, Girlschool,). Audiogalaxy was definitely a plus, as I could download tons of songs to see if I recognized any. Most importantly, I had a partner in crime with a memory as good as if not better than mine, who would trawl the PCC and Orange County records shows with me, where we would meet other like-minded collectors and trade info with them. I'm sure I'm still missing a lot. Just by coming to this forum, I picked up Teenage Girls by the Surf Punks, Trains & Planes by Human Hands, and Right To Know by D-Day. They're being shipped as I write this (except for Teenage Girls, which I already had), and you have my eternal gratitude, wiota and myirwin. [:D][8D] Finally (whew!), many of these songs were not played very often at all, but my rule is, if it was played at all, it goes on my list... Anybody have any more obscurities to add....[?][?][?]

I truly thought I was the only one who ever heard these guys, and I thought they were terrific. But they were only around for a while and then they just disappeared.

I started listening to KROQ when I was 14 and had just moved to LA from Chicago. I was in New Wave Heaven, while most people I knew in the Valley still considered it "the dark side of the dial"
