Wow, it's been a while since I last updated this! I've been doing a lot of ripping recently, so here are a whole bunch of rips. If there's a theme here, it's synthpop:

Also, I apologize in advance if these don't have ID tags. I think I forgot to do that...

Acrilyx - Waiting (1981)
Great synthy powerpop reminiscent of a lo-fi Cars.
Link expired...

Kan Kan - Blue Tango (1981)
Not to be confused with Kon Kan! This is classic moody synthpop with some awesome horns thrown in. I really, really love this song.
Link expired...

President Reagan is Clever - Ostrich (1986)
Great band name, and a great song. Kinda like Joy Division meets Flock of Seagulls. I actually meant to share a different song of theirs, but I guess this will have to suffice for now.
Link expired...

Android - Perpetual Motion (1982)
People loved the last Android song I shared, so here's another one. This is my favorite from the album. All synthesizers, vocoders, and drum machines... great stuff!
Link expired...

Iron Curtain - Shadow (1987)
These guys are kinda the rare underground kings of synthpop (if you don't believe me, go to eBay and type in "Iron Curtain" and "synth".) This is their final release, called Shadow, and while it's not as synthy as previous material, it's still great!
Link expired...

Shadows as Tall as Trees - Now Don't Cry (1987)
First of all, what a great band name, huh? Second, this song (and the entire EP it's on) is incredible. It's not terribly original, but it's very professional and well-produced for a self-released recording. It sounds reminscent of bands like Talk Talk or Peter Murphy but I'm sure there are more obvious comparisons that I'm missing. They actually kinda remind me of that "Stay (The Second Time Around) song that everyone is searching for (but it's not them).
Link expired...

The Short Wave Mystery - Pilot (1985)
Has anyone ever been to Escalon, CA? No? Well, it's a hole; you aren't missing much. But for some crazy reason, a band as good as this originated there (or at least recorded this album there). They were cool enough to name themselves after a Hardy Boys book (presumably) and self-released an EP that used nothing but synths and samples to achieve a small slice of synth perfectcion.
Link expired...

The Short Wave Mystery - Nice Girl (1985)
I like this EP so much I'm gonna share another song. This is more instrumental than the above song, but I absolutely love the use of samples as part of the melody and rhythm!
Link expired...

Anyway, hope you all enjoy these!

Last Night I ripped: Experiments with Ice a 1980 minimal electro group from Denmark
Phil Manzanera-Primitive Guitars/ Impossible Guitar 12"
FM-Black Noise/City of Fear More of progressive but very much a new wave pop feel featuring Nash the Slash

That Perpetual motion by Android is very trippy. I hear some 70s influence in it. Very science fiction roller disco pinball machine-esque.

Well, I've had an orgy of vinyl hunting, purchasing, and ripping lately. Here are some tracks from a few of the albums I've found recently... (and they're tagged this time!)

...Starting with a "twee"riffic trio of twee pop/C86 songs:

1.Blue Train - Land of Gold (1986, from the Land of Gold EP on Dreamworld Records)
<<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
This is extremely wussy! But I like it!

2.Grab Grab the Haddock - I'm Used Now (1984, from the "3 Songs By Grab Grab the Haddock" EP on Cherry Red Records)
<<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
Also wussy, but pretty catchy. One of the girls in this band was also in Marine Girls.

3.Jagged Rocks on the Perimeter - New Country (1986, from the "Soldier and the Painter" LP, self-released)
<<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
An American attempt at C86/jangle pop. Very catchy, solid song. Too bad there's NO info on these guys on the net, except that one of the guys in Gin Blossoms was in a band that played with them once. But don't hold that against them.

...now for 3 new wave/post-punk songs:

1.The Sleep of Reason - The Sleep of Reason (1984, on the "Sleep of Reason" EP on QL Records)
<<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
So, apparently these guys weren't very big into coming up with original names for things...

2.Play - Red Movies (1983, on the "In My Mind" EP on Survival Records)
<<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
This is some good postpunk stuff. Wow, do I ever love this!

3.Abecedarians - Beneath the City of Hedonistic Bohemians (198?, from the EP "Eureka" on Southwest Audio Reproductions)
<<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
A). Best song title, ever.
B). A great song that was sadly left off their AB-CD retrospective.

...Finally, enjoy a trio of synthy new wave goodness!

1.Disco Dream and the Androids - Connection Disconnection (1980, on the selftitled LP on UniWave Records)
<<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
Is it minimal synth? Is it disco? Is it new wave? Is it good?

2.Ice the Falling Rain - Lifes Illusion (1983, from the "Invisible Frame" compilation on Future Records)
<<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
This is one of my favorites of this week. Killer synth line!

3.The Twins - Face to Face Heart to Heart (12" mix) (1983, from the Face to Face Heart to Heart 12" EP on Hansa Records)
<<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
A prolific but sadly underrated synthpop band

Let me know what you all think! I'm sure there's something to please everyone here, unless you're strictly into gangsta polka, but then I would suggest instead visiting the Gangsta Polka Outpost.

Goutroy, thank you so much for these obscurities ... I enjoyed them.Never heard of any of 'em save Abecedarians -- proof that there are still an untold number of rarities and obscurities out there waiting to be discovered!

Play's ep "Red Movies", is one of my alltime favorite records, period. Every song (well, except one) is fantastic. It's amazing that more people haven't heard of Wayne Kennedy, who was in essence the group Play. If you're lucky enough to find a copy, buy it, you won't be disappointed.

Here¡¦s some more recent rips! Since variety is apparently the spice of life, I¡¦m putting up several genres worth of songs:

Count Past Five: Bad Boys of Brighton (from the Bad Boys of Brighton 7¡¨, 1987, Epithet Records)
<<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
This is a great, catchy little mod/powerpop song. Sure, it¡¦s from 1987, but give it a listen!

Zru Vogue: Nakweda Dream (from the 1981 ¡¥Zru Vogue¡¦ LP, self-released)
<<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
Sub Pop called this the ¡§best independent single of 1981¡¨. And then everyone forgot about it. Until now! It¡¦s slow, cold, psychedelic, melodic, [insert adjective], etc. Good stuff.

The Local Moon: A Experience (1988, self-released 7¡¨)
<<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
So what if it¡¦s from 1988, this is some awesome dark, gloomy, ethereal music! It¡¦s like a mix of classic Dead Can Dance, Bauhaus, and¡K let¡¦s say Xmal Deutschland. This may be my favorite of the week!

Life: Touch the Sky (1983, from the ¡§Music Biz Showcase ¡¥83¡¨ compilation, Showcase Records)
<<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
This is the first of 3 minimal/synth songs I have this week. I don¡¦t know if this is the same Life that had some members of New Order, or something else entirely. It¡¦s a live recording (soundboard quality, though), and it¡¦s damn cool.

Billy Clone and the Same: Asexual (1979, from the ¡§X and Y¡¨ EP)
<<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
I bought this based on the band name alone. It¡¦s great, punky new wave.

9353: With All Respect (1983, from the ¡§9353¡¨ LP, on R and B Records)
<<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
It¡¦s an odd name for a band, but who cares? This is some great Devo-esque new wave.

Your New Friends: During (1986, from the ¡§During and After¡¨ EP, self-released)
<<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
Here¡¦s the second synth song this week. It¡¦s an excellent, slow, and somewhat dark song that embraces the artier side of new wave.

Marilyn and the Movie Stars: Luftpause (1981, from the selftitled EP on Aim Records)
<<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
If Gang of Four was synthier and fronted by a girl, they just might sound like this.

The Enormous Room: You Wrote a Book (1986, from the 100 Different Words EP on Sharp Records)
<<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
Several people dug the twee/C86 stuff I put up last week, so here¡¦s another one in that vein. Enjoy!

Shades of May (aka RED FLAG): Distant Memories (1984, from the 91X Local Heroes compilation)
<<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
Here¡¦s the final minimal synth song of the week¡K Before they were known to the world as Red Flag, the brothers Reynold were called Shades of May. They released one song, Distant Memories, on a compilation of San Diego bands. They sound like a very, VERY stripped-down version of their later incarnation, using sparse, primitive synths and drum machine handclaps, but wow it is great!

Wow, it's been over a month since I last updated this! Well here's a whole bunch of good stuff:

Nova: World Without Pity (1983)
<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
Great keyboard-filled new wave, very influenced by Flock of Seagulls. This is an awesome song!

Shadow Show: Watch Me Dance Alone (self-released, 1985)
<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
Great synthpop similar to early Depeche Mode and others.

Abecedarians: Benway's Carnival (Factory Recs, 1986?)
<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
This is the excellent B-Side to Smiling Monarchs. It's a lot synthier than their other stuff!

Snowy Red: Breakdown (Original New Beat Mix) (Antler Subway recs, 1989)
<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
Great dancey remix of this synthpop classic!

New Johnny Five: The Reasoning (1985)
<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
I really dig this kinda dark synthpop stuff. It's kinda New Order-esque.

Daniel Martin: Clones in Love (from the Clones in Love EP, 1983)
<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
This is just weird. Great synth lines, weird, quirky lyrics sung and rapped. Apparently the EP this song is on is a soundtrack to a musical.

Trek With Quintronic: Zolian Space (S/T LP, 1981)
<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
This reminds me of an electro-pop version of Psychedelic Furs. Good stuff!

Mrs Higginbottom: Fugue of the Feeding Hand (S/T EP, 1983)
<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
A sealed copy of this record just sold for a ridiculous amount on eBay. Here's my favorite song from it, an instrumental dark primitive electro-pop masterpiece!

Fatal Charm: Images of Fire (12" version, 1986)
<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
This is a great classic synthpop/indie tune from an extremely underrated band.

Play: In My Mind (In My Mind 12", 1983)
<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
People said good things about the Play track Red Movies that I shared earlier, so here's another one of my favorite songs from them! It's classic dark new wave/postpunk.

Afraid of Mice: This Mirror (Official Bootleg Original version, 198?)
<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
I love this classic new wave song. This is much better than the re-recorded and commercially released version; this is on the 1000-copy self-released Official Bootleg compilation of rarities and demos.

Boytronic: Trigger Track (extended 12" mix, 1984)
<<<LINK EXPIRED>>>>
This is a classic, super-dancey synthpop song. It bridges the gap between early Depeche Mode and Fischerspooner, over 20 years ago!
