Well really when you think about it,the very first few New Wave songs were the following songs. And they had synthesizers in them, and were very much New Wave sounding.
Popcorn By Hot Butter. They used a moog synthesizer in this song, and the year was 1972.
Son Of My Father By Chicory Tip.Labeled really as a early 70's Glam band, they really sounded more like early 70's New Wave as in their music video of this song, they looked entirely like a New Wave band from the late 70's,and 80's.And in the video, they played the synthesizer just like you would see in any 80's New Wave band. The only difference is the year was 1972,and not 1981 as if this were The Human League's Dare album.
The Night Chicago Died By Paper Lace.Although labeled again as a 70's Glam band with Bubblegum tendencies, this popular #1 hit still had use of the synthesizers, going back to the year 1974.And the beat of the heavy drums had that late 70's and,80's New Wave beat and sound, adding a synthesizer to the song. These are the first songs that I think of when early New Wave first showed any signs of being a New Wave style. Can anyone else also see the very same similarites?
