You choice and your comments as to why?

If there's more than 8 albums, I've chosen the first 8 (unless there's obvious crap in favor of some later stuff). I'll compile all the results for all the bands in one place.

I like all of their albums, but NGD is the one I come back to again and again. Plus, it had that cool gold vinyl on my first copy !

Reel to Real. It was the first I ever heard from them and it blew me away. They never topped it IMO.

Sparkle in the Rain and New Gold Dream are close, but Dream is in my top 10 albums of all time. Great lyrics and a intricate blend of guitar and keyboard work on this LP.

Sons and Fascination/Sister Feelings Call.

I consider it an excellent bridge between the artsy-fartsy adventurism of their first few albums and the big sound of their further releases.

There are a few good songs on each subsequent release, but a lot of it puts me right to sleep. By the time they started trying to be U2, it was all over, IMHO.

Sons and Fascination/Sister Feeling Calls for me. I know New Gold is the one most voted as tops, but I prefer the eerie synth of the Sons and Fascination era, while having better songs than the previous three albums. Love the Ai artwork too .

PS. It is "Real to Real Cacophony", according to http://www.simpleminds.org/sm/discog/rtrc/rtrclp1.htm (probably the best SM website). Lots of typos on the various pressings/releases.

New Gold Dream is the best - lost all interest after Sparkle in the Rain.

"Don't You Forget About Me" killed Simple Minds for me....but what a great career up to that point. It was about that time when OMD died too, with the release of "If You Leave"

I know it will sound pompous to admit that, but yes, that was part of it. But moreover, both of those bands lost the experimental edge that made them appealing to me. I don't blame them for wanting to break in America. OMD actually stopped being important to me after Junk Culture...Simple Minds 'Sparkle In The Rain' was more heavy handed than they were capable of. A fair record but a letdown after 7 years of brillance.
