Fave 80s Music mags?

Postby pikeprof » Sat Sep 11, 2004 6:19 am

There were a lot of good and great pro and semi-pro music mags in the 80s-my favorite was bucketful of brains-which still continues today as they well-mined sixities as well as psych and garage music and always provided a flexi-disk. I still look for Bucketful of Brains Cd's and flexis today.

What were yours? Max Rock and Roll-Flipside-The Bob-Trouser Press? and why? do you still collect them?

MRR is still publishing despite the death of founder/director Tim Yohannan a few years back. Still the best resource for whats happening in the world of punk and hard core.

I used to love Trouser Press and Creem. Still have a bunch of back issues fro

heh, i remember Creem....they seemed predominantly Rock/ Rock-n-Roll/metal to me, but their journalism was hilarious, and i remember eagerly flipping through their issues for their gut-splitting photo captions. they seemed to save their best ascerbic wit

Star Hits was the easiest mag for me to find in my town. Creem was little harder to find.

best Star Hits interview: morrissey and pete burns. Together.

I remember the article was about how they struck up a good friendship, and Pete Burns said somet

Circa 1984-85 there was a magazine that seemed to cover Duran Duran, Madonna, Sting and Culture Club every month. Unlike Star Hits it was just a giant poster that was folded into a magazine. Anyone know what it was called? I rememeber in school a bunch of

Op magazine, Trouser Press, CMJ was always interesting to check out all the college charts, plus since we submitted our lists we used to like to check out our station favorites with others.

Remember Debut LP magazine that came with a free actual LP of

Flexipop! You got a neat flexi single free with every issue. I still have a bunch of issues stored away someplace.

I was never one for NME, or Rolling Stone. No, I was more of a Smash Hits, and No. 1 mag reader. I liked the pretty pictures, and I don't know why, but I prefer my pop idols to be 'cartoons' rather than real people. I used to lose a lot of respect for

Star Hits! was also a favorite of mine, I could easily get it at the local drugstore. They also sold the UK version, Smash Hits! which was far superior. Creem, Flipside, Maximum Rock 'N' Roll, were all favorites as well.
