What you seem not to understand is that the subject matter of your posts is bound to rub some people the wrong way.

I believe many of us come here to reminisce about the "good old days" when music was more exciting, because back then you never knew what new, cool sound would come out of the radio next. The snotty rebelliousness of an energetic new Punk song... the fun irreverence of New Wave... the spooky alienation of Goth influenced Rock. Soon to be legendary, Alternative Rock performers were debuting in rapid succession to thumb their nose at what had been the dominant music establishment. The ratio of creative, challenging new sounds and what I consider "bands that mattered" in the early 80's hasn't been that high since.

Conversely, you consistently post about bands like Double, Level 42, Kajagoogoo, Loverboy, etc. and wax poetically about what great musical performers Shawn Cassidy and John Travolta are. I can't remember seeing much from you about the groundswell of 80's artists responsible for originally putting Alternative Music on the map. Bands that were truly groundbreaking, dangerous, cutting edge, creative, experimental, provocative and/or influential seem to have slipped your grasp. Or at least your keyboard.

I'm sure you've seen Larry King. A guy who has made a successful career of overhyping moderately talented performers at the expense of his own credibility, then wonders why no one takes hims seriously anymore. By definition, if Larry endorses it, it must suck.

See where I'm going with this?

It's great that you are passionate about music. You just need to accept that your musical tastes are a little milder than many and be willing to accept the inevitable backlash that comes with making that a public issue. Or balance your posts with something a little more substantial as it relates to the alternative music revolution that made many of us proud to be music lovers in the 80's.

I'll say it again though, I don't think this is a real person. Seriously, Double, Loverboy, etc? It doesn' strike others here as somebody's who's lobbing stink bombs and sitting back laughing his ass off? I refuse to consider any other explanation. As Fanciz was often fond of saying, 'taste' does have absolutes and this would certainly offend those absolutes, so the only cartesian conclusion I can draw is the one I put forth. [:o)]

i like you too djcraig and i can appreciate your opinion etc....but remember music is a taste.who can say what new wave/power pop/new romantic/punk is ???? if maroon 5 came out in 1983 would they be new wave?? who knows??? if nirvana came out in 1976,would they be punk?? who knows???? let's remember that music is a personal taste & opinion,etc....who can say what artists/bands were groundbreaking and put new wave on the map,cause a band that you like or think was groundbreaking i may not think so and the next person may not think your bands or the bands i like were groundbreaking.do you see what i mean???? i've been a professional musician for 27+ years now & the artists that influenced me,my songwriting,my musicianship etc....are different than the guys i played with & vice versa.thats what makes music unique.i was also an A&R guy for many years too in the early to late 80's for a couple of major labels in europe & here in the states and i can tell you that what might sell in europe may not sell here and vice versa. we were responsible in breaking american new wave artists in europe but it was very very difficult because of musical opinion.. etc...just like what we're talkin about.it was also very difficult for us to break european/british artists in america for the same reasons.
djcraig,i've gotton loads of awesome emails thanking me for all my posts & topics etc.....there's alot of people on this site who also appreciates music for what it us......MUSIC!!!!!!!
like i said,,,just because shaun cassidy puts out a new wave album does that mean pet shop boys are better???? of course not!!! its personal opinion and one's personal taste etc......

If you want to cruise around on a moped and pretend it's a Harley that's your business. But when you pull up next to a biker and start boasting to him about your "hog", don't be surprised if he gives you the finger and then leaves you in a cloud of dust.

There are hundreds of bands you could post about here on <big>[b]New Wave Outpost</big>[/b] that no one would argue with. For whatever reason, you choose to post about bands that, even by loose interpretation, don't fit the definition. Then you act in stunned disbelief when people react negatively, as so many have.

Ketchup is not a vegetable and no matter how hard you want to believe it, Loverboy, Shaun Cassidy and Captain and Tenille (or whoever you're probably going to post about next) will never be New Wave.

If you want to fart in church, go ahead. Just don't try to covince those around you that the pungent aroma they are smelling is a bouquet of roses.
