The Passion Of The Christ...........

I think it's worth a viewing if for nothing more than it's account of an historical event central to one of the world's greatest religions. From an artistic point of view, this film took guts to produce: the blunt portrayal OF the Christ's passion in it's horifically drawn out physical abuse, in Jewish run Hollywood and IN a dead language. From a certain point of view, The Passion of the Christ was also about the passion of Gibson. He totally bank rolled it. This film challenged many Christians as well as non. There's nothing wrong with controversy. It inspires discussion and as such can both reaffirm and change points of view.

I agree, Marv, except I feel a moral responsibility to remind people that it is, after all, "an account". (OMG- I have morals?! Who knew?)

Thanks for the wonderfully stated post.

The first 1minute 15 seconds of this clip are sufficient. I'm just adding this for s**ts and giggles, so don't get to feeling all persecuted about it if you don't agree. [:p]

<br>well, thanks BMG for that[:)]. But therein lies the rub. See, what they claim and show Christ went through, isn't that a turn off (to religion)? I am not disputing you specifically BMG; I have wondered about that in general for a long time. I mean, if these events tell us what allegedly happened to Christ, how horrible it was for him, how he sacrificed himself and all that, how does that attract followers ? Wouldn't that actuallyt discourage people from believing, b/c the same thing could happen to them ?[?]

I can see where you're coming from. I can see how seeing all that could be a huge turn off. I don't think Christians have to worry too much about being crucified, but plenty of other kinds of persecution exist.

Maybe someone could see the movie, see what Christ went through for THEM and everyone else and then be spurred to go and learn more about Christianity?

Why Shovelbut, how intolerant of you. You joke like a right wing extremist.

Hasn't that always been obvious? It's like watching a sad cartoon.

A friend of mine saw it and he said he wished he haden't, and that he felt "beat up" afterward. I don't need that.

Great! Another biased remark from you! Keep going! Show us how transparent that objectivity is of yours!

You have no idea how a movie like Passion of the Crist made an impact in my pre dominant Catholic country. I mean they tried to ban Da Vinci Code but allowed a brutal film like passion with scenes of torture beyond our imagination.

What i dont understand is why Mel made a movie about the King of the Jews then shout anti semitic at the police when he was drunk?

Glok...youre referring to Scorsese's Temptation Of Christ about Jesus and Magdalene. Now that movie was Banned in my country.

Christ was not the only one to be tortured and crucified back then. He is the most remembered. It does make for a powerful story and Mel Gibson captured the pain of Christ very well.

I think the violence/torture thing is a little over hyped. I've seen far worse in other movies that made me really uncomfortable.
