You know, it's this kind of shit-stirring that makes almost makes me want to give up too. I don't know if it's worth shutting the board down to give some people the satisfaction of "mission accomplished". I know that I pay a handsome amount of $$ to keep this board (and the massive database behind it) running 24/7 without the old glitches of the past.
Maybe some of us are just suffering from burn-out. Moi? Yeah, you might say that. I know I personally can't keep tabs on the board nearly as frequently as I used to, and I can't realistically babysit this board which is why the mods are here to help. Obviously, a lot of people seem to have issues with Marv as a moderator. I hear both sides of the story and I'm always trying to sort this out. I will tell you that the mods and I are always in touch and we are always working to straighten things out.
I could do less with anyone who seem to make it their mission to belittle others on the board. Seeing the same old easy targets being lampooned over and over is downright tiresome. Again, it's as if it's being done for the sole enjoyment of their little clique (Hey, high five! Good one! Smug GG remarks soon to follow I'm sure), as if there aren't others reading through this shit and rolling their eyes. Seriously, how the sand has gotten into some people's panties these days! It's all about the inside jokes at the expense of others now isn't it. Ultimately, it's a childish ego thing, which as you can tell by my unrelenting presence on the board, I tend to eschew. I wish people could police themselves for the most part -- part of those laissez faire ideals I hold dear but when this stuff happens, I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't, really. Seems I don't do enough, which is fair to suggest but I simply don't have the time or resources. Life happens.
Anyway, this board has had a good run of over four years and along the way we've created a truly formidable repository of information on new wave music and related genres. Lots of intriguing and heated sociopolitical discussions along the way. But lately, it seems like it's not much about the music anymore even in the music forums. Personally, I'm really offended by how new members tend to be treated here now. God forbid a newcomer doesn't search the archives for a topic about the Laughing Dogs first. Seriously, whatever happened to civility? Save the ribbing for the longtime members who know you and can take it. If this post sounds like deju vu, well yeah, it does to me too.[|)] Carry on for now at least.
