Your Summer So Far

Postby phillyidol » Sun Aug 12, 2007 9:39 am

I am just super busy between work and the beach club. I go to the beach club almost every day. I spent most of my summer drinking and making people laugh. I also spent some crazy ass time in Coney Island.

I can't believe it either. The worst 3 weeks of my life. I thank God every day for having had her in my life for 43 years. Also, I have to thank you and your family for everything you have done for me.

Work at the prison, sweat, come home, sleep and back to work again and do it all over again. The only plus is that it's 4 on 4 off. On days off, relax, cut grass, download albums, hang out with wife and kitties.

As I posted earlier, my mother-in-law passed away 2 years ago from lung cancer. It has been extremely difficult for our family to come to terms with this simply because she had never smoked a cigarette in her life. Reillygirl and QL, were your parents smokers? I am just curious.

Sadly yes, my mom smoked 2 packs a day for as long as I can remember. My Dad still smokes as well as one of my brothers.

rg, thanks for the response. I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how frustrating it can be to see someone you care for knowingly harm themselves and not be able to stop them. My mother is a 2 pack a day gal herself. She has COPD, chronic bronchitis, aesthma, and emphysema but she refuses to give up her ciggies; even after seeing how painfully my mom-in-law died. I don't get it. Hang in there and good luck! [;)]

One thing I've learned is to redeem the time because our days are short what we have with loved ones. Like my dad who in my later days as I take on more of a parenting roll in these later days of the parent child relationship our rolls have kind of reversed. I am so broken and convected that I have failed him in these later days. I hope to redeem that this Sept 1st as we watch Cal vs Tenn. and have a BBQ in the Santa Cruz, CA sun.

Go Cal get revenge.

What a summer.

My call center is closing Sept. 28th (I've mentioned this to you guys before), so I have been trying to keep the losses at work to a minimum. I am a pretty easy-going guy and I manage people (I think) pretty effectively. I've read "How To Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie many times, and I highly recommend it if you are a manager in any field. Anyway, my staff has dwindled to 7 people (from 18 six months ago) after 2 people left this week, both without notice. I placed the one guy Carlos on a final warning because he was giving terrible customer service on a consistent basis, as well as abusing his break/lunch times. Needless to say I wasn't sorry to see him go. Sometimes people get stressed and my main function is to nurse them through it to the end, so it's a bit stressful to me too. After the place closes, I am off to Baltimore for 2 months to continue assisting with the migration. My main function will be to train the supervisor staff the Ways Of The Company. Writing reviews, conducting meetings, coaching, etc. The company jacked up my stay-on bonus to over $6,000, and my severance will carry me into the Spring (with full benefits). Life is good there.

The summer has been hot here in St. Louis. We've cracked 100 degrees several times in the last few weeks and we're set to have the next 3 days come close. I'm a fall/winter kind of guy so this has been killing me. I also got a wicked sunburn at the pool 2 weeks ago and I was sore for a week. Good times.

On a side note, I saw that New York City tied the alltime record low maximum temperature for the month of August today. 59 degrees! My 11 year old daughter Summer saw that and was thrilled to death. That's my girl!

What else...been watching the Cardinals come back to life the last 2 weeks. As I write this they are 3 games out pending the outcome of the Cubs and Brewers games. Wow!

Been preparing for my fantasy football draft this Sunday. I have the 3rd pick. I'm vacillating between Shaun Alexander and Frank Gore. If anyone has some advice for me, please let me know. I am a huge fantasy sports nut, but I approach football with near derangement. It's so damn fun!

Speaking of football, the Rutgers (aka the State University of New Jersey) Scarlet Knights are ranked #16 in the AP preseason poll. SI has them at #12. Who ever would have imagined that shit?

Sorry for going off on a tangent there...it's been a few weeks since I've been here, but I find this place very theraputic. Hope the rest of the summer is as good for you as it is for me!
