I see what you are trying to say.
BUT--the difference here is that past groups that were "demonized", such as gays or African Americans, never did anything wrong. They were demonized due to backward thinking and horrible prejudices.
ILLEGALS, OTOH, ARE doing something wrong. They entered this country illegally. Even those among us who are not necessarily "prejudiced" against immigrants [i]per se[/i] can certainly understand the law.
