Orange You Sad.....

Postby MARV » Fri Feb 06, 2009 3:16 am

Pardon me for getting my design-snob on but holy crap, the new Tropicana orange juice package design sucks. I thought I was the only one who was horrified at the grocery store by this generic tripe. The Arnell Group is a pretty respected design agency so for them to destroy such an iconic brand so steeped in Americana overnight is beyond me. What a shame.

There is such great design out there. seems as if boring is better is the corporate mantra lately, though.

I liked this one:

<img style="float:center; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 201px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_uB-0D-gV8mY/SYyfqHj3YEI/AAAAAAAATPw/NAhyE9zYmgk/s400/32.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5299786407441031234" />

We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.

the new amorphous pepsi blob is sorta growing on me though. Walmart was predictable in the corporate 'futurising' of the logo

Still, that foolish asterisk in Wal-Mart though...I don't know if I should be looking for a footnote somewhere or expecting a fart joke after that chatroom symbol for anal opening. What lazy design. If you're gonna be using dingbats you might as well hold the option key at the same time and get something vaguely interesting like a ° or a » or a ‡.....something.

OK, don't laugh, or do, but the new Wal-Mart logo--the yellow "flower"/"astrick"--makes me think of an 'anus!' [}:)]

This is the kind of lazy, lackadaisical, and uninspiring work which led me to never consider taking art classes at UCSD. I used to see bland and boring art there all the fuckin time. They're not even trying anymore. What art programmes should do is kick every one of them out into the street, take all their possessions, and make them into social pariahs - you'd see stuff that could easily rival work by Toulouse-Lautrec and van Gogh[}:)]

That Tropicana carton is okay to me. Won't influence me either way. At least it makes sense.

What I haven't figured out is why the new wave outpost logo isn't on the front of a hocket jersey. It doesn't remotely resemble anything new wave, or for that matter, music. Not to me, but also, it does not impact whether I like this site. Looks like it was taken from a hockey jersey and the team name replaced with this site name. The Tropicana label is light years better to me. Simple and to the point. I look at the logo above and figure the hockey game must be getting ready to start. If I was looking fora logo for new wave music, the designer of this logo would have missed the mark by a universe or two. Guess I'll go pour myself some OJ and get ready for the hockey game......I mean, read some stuff on the new wave hockeypost.

Sheesh, at least I excused myself for getting my design-snob on. By the way, what's a "hocket" jersey?

What? Is the logo supposed to impact whether you like this site? Do you need it to for some reason?

I already know the answer ... of course not. This was just an obvious attempt at trolling Marv.
