Here's what I'm talking about....this shit fucks me up.

I had to fire a friend yesterday plus write up 3 other friends up for quality issues. This also puts one of the 3 in the dismissal mode. Now, this person calls me this morning and tells me that her mother died last night and won't be back to work until next week. I was told to let her go when she gets back. This is my job....this really sucks.

How do you deal with this stuff?

That's a tough one. After much thought and consideration, here's your answer:

See post #2. Amend the #1 Motors solution for all of life's problems to read "Bang 2 much younger women at the same time". Hell, even if you have to pay handsomely to arrange this, DO IT. Then do #3 through #7 as written. You may skip the weight training because you'll be too tired from banging 2 chicks. There's no way anyone could complete that list and still be in a bad mood.

Do what you have to do as a professional and get it over with. If they're real friends they'll understand your position. Going forward, never get so friendly with your reports that you have a personal relationship with them. It sounds like you don't want to be in this position again.

I have worked with these people for a number of years, we don't hang out or anything...just a working relationship. They all deserved their punishments, I just don't like having to dish it out. The one that already got fired was pissed but he didn't blame me....I'm not looking forward to the other one with the deceased parent.

I took this position knowing that I might have to fire people but that didn't make it any easier when I finally had to actually fire someone.

I suppose a wheel will fall off of my car on the way home tonight... that would be par for the course.

But there is good news (finally), my raise went through. Oh happy day.
