When did you 1st discover Kraftwerk?

Postby bpdp3 » Fri Feb 04, 2005 10:04 pm

To be honest, it was late in the game for me - - with the release of Electric Cafe in '86. I had read about them for years, but never had gone ahead and bought anything. I wasn't going to hear them on the radio, that's for sure.

Soon an obsession started - - in the next couple years I had all their releases. I was totally obsessed with the idea of these four sophisticated German guys creating this amazing electronic music. Spent one night on the phone with a German operator trying to obtain the number to Kling Klang studios in Dusseldorf.

My favorite release? Hard to say...maybe Computer World or Trans Europe Express. Love the Man Machine as well. It's a toss-up.

Please tell me I'm not the only one.....

I discovered Kraftwerk back in 1976 when my cousin gave me their album, Autobahn. Definitely was different than anything I was into back at that time.

It was 1982 for me. I had just started high school and was in a Junior Achievement program. This girl there told me about them and lent me her 45 of "Numbers." I was hooked instantly! It's hard for me to pick a favorite because I love everything by them.

Pretty late. Probably 1982 for me too with 1981's Pocket Calculator, and then revisited his older stuff.

In 1976 I bought Autobahn at Skippy whites records...I liked their sound and loved their image even better. I've been hooked ever since...
I saw them live last year and they put on a great show.

Same for me with Pocket calculator. Heard it in a Mix during WBMX glory days and I was hooked. Anyone ever notice you never see them sing in their videos. The only time I even remotely saw them sing was their shadow in "The Telephone Call" video.

I don't know. I think it was when the Electric Cafe album got radio play. Thing is, I was happy enough then to listen to it on the radio and never bothered to learn the names of the songs or the band. It took years for me to reaslise who this myste

I first heard of them in 1981 when, amazingly, the Computer World album was Columbia House's pick of the month. The little CH catalog had a bio of the band and some pictures which made me think they were the oddest band I'd ever seen (I was 11) A few ye

I first dicovered them on a documentary on MTV In '99 about the roots of hip hop. amazingly synthpop has a impact on hip hop in some way. anyway they played a sample of "Trans Europe Express" Africa Bambaataa sampled.
and the rest is social studies....

When I saw the video for Autobahn on a late night Viacom cable show (can't remember what it was called). It was the same year I got the original Sony Walkman casette player for Christmas. I loved that year (79 or 80) can't remember which one.

...and don't you just love "The Model"(/Computer Love-1981 7")?!

I'd like to take her home that's understood
She plays hard to get, she smiles from time to time
It only takes a camera to change her mind..."

The first album I bought by Kraftwerk was "Computer World". I was in college (art school), and I needed a picture of a computer for a project I was working on. I remembered the image from that album cover (having seen it in the used bins at the record s

It sounds kind of weird, but I had a babysitter that used to watch the show "Dance Fever". Normally, the people danced to disco, but sometime in the early 80s, there was this one couple who danced to Kraftwerk. They were very new wave, and I think they

Kraftwerk... probably my all-time favorite band if forced at gunpoint to choose just one.

I first got turned on to them when my freind's sister came home from college around Christmas of 76. My friend played me this weird song his sister had brought h
