Just to correct you, the two signifies that it was being shown on Top of the Pops 2, a BBC music show that shows selected performances of acts that have appeared on the show over the years and does not signify chart position. I should of thought a big Toyah fan would have known that.

As for your other point, never really been heavily into chart music (although I've got my faves), recently I've been listening to library synth music, some of the tracks have been heard more people over a longer period of time in the UK that Toyah ever has.

This is rather BS really.
The album charted at #3 may 30...peaked at #2 a week later and imediately started to plummet. By August it was barly holding onto a top twenty position...18 is not top of the UK charts, top 10 is...of which she managed 4 weeks...not "a year" as you put it.

Its not an impressive statistic for a UK album.

(should have said stayed at the top of the 'indie' chart for a year, and the performance on the establishment chart ,for a little label like Safari, is quite impressive indeed, as well as delivering three consecutive top ten chart singles in that period and winning the 'brit' award that year over annie lennox, debbie harry, etc...
and U2 paid particular attention to the follow up top ten album, "The Changeling"(1982) as they borrowed the opening of Toyah's Top Twenty single "Brave New World", with Steve Lilywhite at the helm,

I quite agree. It's like Castor Oil. I used to have no opinion on it. But after I had it rammed down my throat regularly by someone who was "doing me a favor", I began to love it.

Agreed that her/their music is perfectly dreadful, but nothing -- I repeat -- nothing will ever top "Thunder in the Mountains" in the "How Did This Even Get Released, Let Alone Become a Top 5 U.K. Hit?" department. The sad thing is, they actually had her working with pro songwriters for her 1985 album -- and the singles STILL sucked.

Why would anyone listen to this crap when Siouxsie and the Banshees did it all so much better (and with good songs to boot)?

You know, I had listened to quite a few of those abominations, but couldn't remember what "Thunder In The Mountains" sounded like,(no doubt a big plus for me) so I took the bait and went back to listen again. I owe you a swift kick to the nuts for that...

Again, the horse was the star performer in the video, but like you I'm puzzled that with the incredible wealth of talent that flowed from the U.K. during that period, why anyone could possibly see talent in Toyah. Couldn't sing, couldn't dance...simply a passable piece of eye candy for someone at Safari to plow.

We may need to run a poll to establish which song is worse; "It's a Mystery" or "Thunder In The Mountains".

You'd think that, as long as she's been around, the sheer odds would dictate that she'd have at least ONE listenable song by now. Or at least one that didn't completely suck.

PS The above statement in no way changes my status as the #2 Toyah fan on NWO.
